GRAND Things are Coming

GRAND things are coming!

We have been hard at work these months making sure everything is moving along. Construction, landscaping, remodeling, activities, and community, we have done it all the last few months. So, let’s start with the top, shall we?

Construction Update!

We have a building! Floor, framing and a ceiling are all accounted for. Windows, doors, electric, and plumbing are installed. Insulation, painting and walls are coming in next. As behind as all the construction was feeling at the beginning of this year, it is all coming together quickly and, in a way, better than imagined. We are beyond proud and blessed to be working with the absolute best contractors to make this happen for us. A community who supports each other, grows together and we are so happy to be a part of it!

Along with the construction of our pavilion, we have been creating several landscaping areas for the outdoor altar and ceremony sites. The dock on the pond is up and pending the black industrial railing. The first three amphitheater seating steps overlooking the dock have been dug out with one more to complete. When the dirt work is finished, we will have it all seeded down with grass to round out the natural outdoor aesthetic. The Wooded Grove site has all the steps into the ground and covered back down with soil and seed. All the electricity has been threaded down through the trees to allow lights to be hung between trees and over the aisle. A small rock wall and leveling is all it takes for this site to be wrapped up. Our butterfly habitat is sprouted to allow a wildflower backdrop for ceremonies. Once we spread topsoil, grass seed can be planted down to finish up.

To offer something a little different than other places, we offer overnight accommodations with our pavilion rentals. Our Bridal Lounge includes two hair and makeup counters with 6 chairs and benches. Plenty of mirrors, lights, and space to bring in hairstylist and makeup artists or to do their own. Off the lounge is the Bridal Suite with a queen bed, end bench, and armorer. New carpet is the only thing left to finish the suite which also doubles as the Honeymoon Suite. Attached to the suite is the newly remodeled bathroom with a standing surround shower, double vanity, and new tile. Our Bridesmaids Parlor currently sleeps 5 people the night before the wedding so friends can stay the night before to be onsite to all get ready together in the morning.

Being active and supportive in the community is something we are passionate and excited about. In June, July, and August we were a part of the Downtown Summer Market in Fort Madison. This was a fabulous, fun market full of some of the best vendors around and it was a grand time being able to meet new friends and share our growth and progress with old ones. We had two preview weekends where we opened our grounds to tours for those curious to see how far we have some so far and what our plans are to still finish. Sweet Corn Festival is a highlight of our West Point town and we jumped at every opportunity to be a part of it possible. From dancing with the Holy Trinity Dance Team to throwing handfuls of candy in the parade and all the fantastic chicken dinners in between, Sweet Corn Festival 2019 did not disappoint, and Grand Things happen when you are Livin’ in Cob Heaven! Charity golf outings are long days, but they are amazing days. Being a sponsor for the Fort Madison Community Hospital was a fantastic opportunity for us to share our upcoming events with teams and spread the community spirit we are apart of.

Which brings us to our final update for now. While Small Grand Things is an event center to host your next party, gathering, or celebration, we are also hosting our own events open to the community.

Our Grand Opening will be on September 28th, 2019 from 6 pm until midnight. We are beyond excited to be able to finally share all our hard work and ultimately our dream with everyone who has been so supportive, friendly, and happy for us through everything! We have partnered with Wilson Bros BBQ to have a hog roast starting at 6 for as long as the food lasts! We are also working with Will Stuekerjuergen and Caleb Booten to have DJ and live music throughout the night. Interested in coming out to see what all the talk and hype has been about? Load up the car with your crew and tribe, bring your favorite drink and enjoy a night with friends!

Our second event we will be hosting as Small Grand Things will be our Adult Trunk or Treat. This will be a fun night to start off the fall and holiday season with a treat walk through decorated trunks. An entry ticket can be purchased on Facebook for $10. Tickets gain you a treat cup to hold your liquid adult treats, entry to the Trunk or Treat, a voter card to choose your favorite decorated trunk, viewing of a classic Halloween movie showing after dark, and more. A GRAND night to spend with friends and let your inner child show again. Costumes are not required but are highly encouraged and we will have a costume contest! Costume categories will be set for Groups, Couples, or Individual so start planning now. Pre-buy your tickets before October 11 for the $10 rate. Tickets will be available for purchase day of for $15.

We will be celebrating our first New Year’s Eve and the new decade with a Roarin’ in the ‘20’s themed dance. Dust off your fedoras and find your fringes, what a capital idea! We are going to bring in 2020 with 1920’s fashion. Music starting at 8 pm and a champagne toast at midnight, Small Grand Things is happy to spend the night with our friends, neighbors, and community!

More events are being planned and will be announced as they are finalized. Be sure to stay tuned on our Facebook page as well as check in to our new Events page on our website to learn more about upcoming events.

Until then, watch our progress on Facebook and Instagram and we will see you on September 28th!
